STEM CAREER DAY @ McPHERSON MAGNET SCHOOL

We are in the process of planning a STEM Career Day to be held at McPherson Magnet School on Wednesday, April 24, between 11:00am and 12:00pm.  We are planning to have two 20 minute sessions.

In order to make this event a success – we need your help!  We are looking for parents or somebody you may know that would be willing to come to McPherson and present aspects of their career to a class or a grade level.  The inclusion of pictures and artifacts would be helpful.

The objective of this program is to have students exposed to STEM careers. If you are interested (or know someone who would be) in participating, please complete the following information and using the link below to sign up to present or help with the event.

McPherson’s FITT Program

(Future Innovators for Today and Tomorrow)

FITT is a new program that McPherson Magnet will be implementing next year for 3rd - 5th grade. FITT is designed to challenge and accelerate our “GATE identified” and advanced students. The program utilizes differentiated instruction, hands-on learning, and enhanced practices. More importantly, it allows your child to remain at McPherson, opening opportunities for them to participate in our award-winning STEM programs while retaining your position in the lottery.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS:

30 (3rd) and 33 (4th and 5th) of the highest scoring students will be invited into the program. Students will rotate through three teachers daily: A Math Specialist, A Language Arts Specialist, and A Science Specialist (with integrated history concepts). The program is about acceleration — not about more work. FITT classrooms will be BRIDGING standards (for example, teaching some 4th grade standards to the 3rd grade FITT students) as well as offering extra opportunities through the following programs. These programs are in addition to the curriculum that McPherson currently offers.

FITT Criteria

1. GATE Identification

2. Advanced scores on RI and/or MI

3. Demonstrates Creativity in writing

4. Prior Academic Achievement

5. Staff recommendation/interview

Applications are Due March 29, 2019
